As a woman, there are many unspoken jobs that I perform. I manage our family life’s seasonal rhythms and set the stage, tone, and table for celebrations and vacations. I am the listener, teacher, and translator as each family member needs a differential learning approach. I need to understand how to communicate with each in their own way for us to get all our needs met. Most importantly, I express my unconditional love and hope for them recognizing who they truly are inside.

I am the quiet Overseer. I oversee rhythms and joy and self-esteem. I find immense joy in seeing my family happy and watching them feel free to create what they need to bring to the world. I am the mirror, and I am the pride.

This is heart work. Work that’s intuitive and requires compassion. You must be an incredibly kind spirited gentlewoman to raise children into people who will lead with compassion. If you have never done this job, you may not understand its importance. But this job is about overseeing the emotional intelligence and integrity of a future generation, disrupting the pattern of anxiety and generational trauma.

“You must be an incredibly kind spirited gentlewoman to raise children into people who will lead with compassion.”

This necessary work is both immensely important and energetically draining. Raising the next generation with the ability to have compassion for other humans is extremely important and we don’t do it for glory, power, or money. We do it because we know it’s what needs to be done every day.

I also know my well-being flavors the quality of these jobs and the satisfaction I feel. I am privileged to occupy this life space and I have the freedom to create my thoughts. I am the overseer of my own life quality as well.

I get to write the play and set the stage. I get to craft the script and write the score (funk music) for raising children while tolerating men with no respect for their own mothers. My worthiness is equally important as my children’s. And I too must lead myself with honor so that my children may later honor themselves as they saw me honor myself.

We women don’t ask for a lot of recognition because what we do is an act of service. We are a silent army creating the world of the future, one thoughtful act at a time. I have won my self-esteem back after an epic lifetime battle. Now, I feel privileged to make it easier for the next generation to live a more joyful life. I am proud to contribute emotionally mature beings to the world who, by their existence and compassionate nature, make the world a better place.

  1. I don’t know when I have read something and been so moved by it that tears streamed down my face. Beautifully written, heartfelt, a kindred soul expressing her incredible love and appreciation for her role as a mother who is sending messengers to a time we will not see. Ensuring those messengers are filled with love and compassion. There is hope for the next generation. My soul thanks you for this writing.
