This is a leftover post from the 2013 Christmas season . With Christmas here again soon, I thought I’d finally publish it a year later. These lights are still out there and waiting for you to mistakenly buy them like I apparently did.

I give you Christmas past a la 2013 complete with a 9 month old Fiona. So cute.

Since today was decorate the tree day, yesterday was the lighting of the tree day. The babysitter Aine was coming today and my window of opportunity would slam down on my grasping fingers if I didn’t do that thing then.

I grabbed the new lights from the attic, and with the baby installed in a highchair, I began to yank them out and plug them in for light application a la Shalagh. It’s a pretty intense process whereby I wrap the lights back and forth, in and out on the branches of the tree. You don’t see the wires running horizontally and it gives it depth and more lights.

I had just plugged the strand in and saw a light blink. I thought, how ridiculous. I just bought them and their already shorting out? And then another blink caught my eye. There was more going on here. I squinted at the box. “Twinkling” it said. Aha.

Only about 7 lights seem to blink at odd intervals. It gives the feeling of the tree blowing in the wind or something.

(View the online demo here to see their effect. Press the “play video” button and then actually play the video when it pops up ).

I decided to run one strand up the middle and off to the side and continue on with regular lights. Giving the twitchy lights a chance to impress me.

Tree’s decorated now and waiting for it’s close-up. I’ll let you know how I feel about the twitchy lights after the season.

Postlude: They actually didn’t suck. It was slightly noticeable since I mixed them with lots of plain twinkle lights. The wreath? A little more twitchy  because one strand. The lights weren’t quiet. They were more like a light jazz CD on repeat.
