Somewhere in my early twenties, I began to do photo collages.

The pages from the magazines I’d oggled since I was a teenager became my medium and my muse.

Perfection 001 - Copy (4)

Vogue and W, fashion’s big hitters were shredded to make my art.

Woman And World 001 - Copy (5)

And what I found was a deep resentment for what these magazines had helped to create.

Tomatas
Tomatas

A poor opinion of my body and an objectification of women in general.

Senorita
Senorita

While they seem light and immediately understandable, there’s an undertone of something more seriously unsettling about them.

Fruitful
Fruitful

Art angry. Art with purpose. Just art to art.

  1. I. LOVE. THESE! Subversive. Those mags will kill you. I am certain they contributed to my eating disorder in High School. (Except I wasn’t very good at having an eating disorder, so was never that skinny. And nobody knew. LOL.)

    • Hahahaha, I don’t know what was funnier. The word subversive applying to anything that I do. Or your lack of success at having an eating disorder. I am so thankful Amanda that you get what my art was about.
      Love,
